ABOUT THE ARTIST

Robert Irwin Wolf is an American sculptor whose work blends figurative and abstract elements expressed through carvings of various types of stone and wood. Each piece suggests a unique gestural communication that is intrinsic to human experience and is often perceived on an unconscious, visceral level. Based in New York, Wolf received his early training in sculpture from the Pratt Institute School of Art and Design. His work, which has been influenced by Jean Arp, Henry Moore, and Constantin Brâncuși, has been exhibited over the past 40 years in a variety of galleries and museums. In 2007, his sculpture was chosen for the design of the Mickey Layland Humanitarian Award, presented to Anderson Cooper. His work is included in the permanent collection of the Menninger Foundation as well as numerous private collections in the United States and South Korea.
