Collection: VIRGINIA DERQUI

Virginia Derqui

Virginia Derqui is an Argentine artist whose large-format paintings, each executed using only two colors, explore the expansions and contractions of line, form, space, and volume. Mónika Wosthoff, Art Historian of the Fondation Beyeler, wrote, “Virginia Derqui is an artist par excellence. She crosses the border of any stylistic direction of art as she redefines the canvas.” Born in Buenos Aires, in 1969, Derqui studied for ten years under the tutelage of Liliana Revuelta, who had been a student of Miguel Angel Vidal, co-founder, with Eduardo Mac Entyre, of the Generative Art Movement of Buenos Aires. In addition to Leonard Tourné Gallery, her work has been exhibited in Galerie Ficher Rohr in Basel, Switzerland, Galería Rubbers in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology in São Paulo, Brazil, and Galería Abartium, Fundación Claret, and Castell de Montesquiu, all in Barcelona, Spain. Her work is part of the permanent collection of Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany, among other collections.
